Testimonials
"I have no idea where I would be, what I would be doing or how to go about each day with a newborn to care for, let alone to be able to care for and love myself and her to my full potential. I would not have been able to cope with finding a safe and secure living environment to properly bathe, eat, sleep or cope daily. Staff opened the doors and their arms to me with such love and support. I instantly felt comfortable, secure and safe. It was easy to say I was home."
"During my pregnancy with my son, I found myself feeling hopeless. I had never been a single mom before. And here I was, very pregnant, ready to give birth soon, with no support system, no family to lean on, feeling lost, confused and questioning whether my child would be better off without me. So, he would have a better chance in life than I did. I was preparing myself to make one of the biggest decisions of my life, possibly abandoning my baby, so he could have a real future.
Luckily, I was referred to Our Lady of Guadelupe Maternity Home. They welcomed me with open arms; I have been let down in the past and was very cautious of letting them into my life in the beginning. I was grateful to be there, but I wasn’t prepared to let them into my heart just yet. As time went on, they helped me feel safe, they allowed me to make the decisions I seen fit for my child while also giving me the opportunity to learn better, more effective techniques for caring for my child. They met me with no judgement and gave me the opportunity to open up to them. As I began opening up, I started to consider the staff, and this group of women my family and I’m not sure where I’d be if I didn’t.
The thing I love most about our lady of Guadelupe, is that they don’t just provide shelter and support for the allotted time that is given to these mothers, but they build a connection with us to support us throughout our development of caring for our children as they grow. Today, I am raising my child alone in our own home, but I don’t feel alone because of the support system OLOG has helped me create. They have given me love and hope to lean on and for that, I could never thank them enough.
My point is, this maternity home really gave me a chance to flourish and become the mother I wanted to be for my son, the mother I didn’t think I could be because of my lack of resources. It helped give me the tools I needed to make raising my child alone possible and most importantly, it gave me the opportunity to enjoy those little moments with my son that I would’ve missed if it wasn’t for OLOG. I had no worries of how I was going to survive the day; I knew that Our Lady of Guadalupe home was there to support me, and I was able to experience the beauty of it all. This home inspires hope into women that don’t know who or where to turn to. "
